This hotel-review from hotel Sunwing Sandy Bay Beach, Cyprus has been written of one of my readers. Thank you Cecilie Refsnes Milenkovic for writing this and for the pictures! I must say I really, really want to try out this hotel after reading this review. (I have read about the Sunwing Food Intolerance Ambassador: I think you can find this at all Sunwing-hotels!)
Hotel review: Sunwing Sandy Bay Beach, Cyprus
We were two weeks in Cyprus, Ayia Napa, in early July. We stayed at Sunwing Sandy Bay Beach. The first week we had Sunwing inclusive which consisted of breakfast for 7 days and dinner and lunch for 5 days.
I will start with the breakfast. The hotel had an incredible variety and I ate a lot of rice-crackers, cold cuts of turkey, eggs, bacon, fried halloumi (the world’s best cheese) and various vegetables. In addition they had milk-free alternatives, for those who can tolerate, soy milk, rice milk, coconut milk etc.
There were also two lactose-free yogurts (natural and strawberries) and lots of different toppings, like gluten-free oatmeal and cornflakes as well as all kinds of nuts, coconut and seeds.
Lunch and dinner
The variety for lunch and dinner is huge, but much of the roast is made with garlic (you can ask the chef directly to get something without).
Sunwing Food Intolerance Ambassadors
The most fantastic thing with Sunwing Sandy Bay Beach was the Sunwings Food Intolerance Ambassadors. A man who deserves lots of positive feedback. His name was George and he was a true grandfather-type. To him I could come if I had any specific wishes or needs. He ordered exactly what I wanted without any problems.
One day I also tried the hotels own gluten-free pizza. They put tomato sauce made from plain tomatoes, just for me, and topped it with cheese and ham. It was the best gluten-free pizza I have ever tasted!
Something else I ate a lot of was the following: Grilled chicken breast and grilled tomatoes with only salt and pepper, natural feta cheese and boiled rice.
About the area around the hotel
Otherwise I recommend the restaurant across the street called Wild West where I ordered the mentioned chicken dish day after day after day 😅
The selection of low FODMAP-food at the supermarkets is great. They have rice-cakes in all kinds of varieties and gluten-free bread can be made at the hotel’s supermarket upon request. They have “low lactose” milk (green / white cork and label) as well as Delact natural yogurt and lactose free natural and strawberries.
Otherwise, there was a good selection of lactose free cheeses and cold cuts. I also recommend nescafe white peach ice tea. If you find Rosso supermarket (big) they have low FODMAP sugar free jelly. Of course they also have oatmeal and different kinds of nuts at the supermarket.
PS! If you have stayed at any hotel around the world and want to share the review in the blog. Please send me an e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org and mark it with: travel low FODMAP
